The tragic opera by Giuseppe Verdi based on William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is coming back to Spain, with tenor Plácido Domingo (Madrid, Spain, 1941) in the role of one of the most complex and interesting characters of world literature.
Macbeth and Banquo are generals in King Duncan’s army. On their way home after winning a battle against an army of rebels, they meet three witches who call Macbeth Thane of Cawdor and tell him he’ll be king.
But the witches, who can see into the future, prophesy that Banquo’s children will reign in Scotland. Soon after this strange encounter, Macbeth becomes Thane of Cawdor. From then on, a succession of plots, stratagems, betrayals and sinister apparitions that lead to the character’s inevitable fall.
