The CSR section of La Caixa is bringing you one of the most important private collections of modern and avant-garde art in the world, The Phillips Collection, which includes works by some truly great artists such as Goya, Manet, Courbet, Sisley, Van Gogh and Picasso, among others.
The exhibition looks at art in recent centuries, from romanticism to abstract expressionism through 60 paintings by great artists. A unique opportunity to see in one place the works of the most influential artists in the history of painting from the past 200 years.
Duncan Phillips, an entrepreneur in the metal industry, began collecting art in 1921 and collected a total of 300 pieces for the Phillips Memorial Gallery, making this the first museum of modern art in the US. He then focused on collecting works by his favourite artists: Pierre Bonnard, Georges Braque, Paul Klee and Paul Cézanne.
