The Compañía Nacional de Danza are staging a ballet gala to honour the diva of dance, head of this ballet company from 1987 to 1990: Maya Plisetskaya, who passed away in 2015.
Directed by José Carlos Martínez, the Spanish ballet company will perform to the music of great composers like Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff, Georges Bizet, Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns or Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, all of whom had been part of her repertoire.
At this gala in Madrid, the audience will be able to enjoy Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Raymonda or Walpurgisnacht, featuring the pas de deux or the swan character that were essential to Plisetskaya’s career.
Maya Plisetskaya (Moscow, Russia, 1925-Munich, Germany, 2015) was one of the legends of the Bolshoi Ballet. In 1960, she was titled prima ballerina assoluta of the Bolshoi, and during her career she received the most important awards, like the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2005, the Spanish Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts in 1991 and the Russian Order ‘For Merit to the Fatherland’ twice, in 1995 and 2000.
