The National Dance Company (CND) premieres the Don Quixote ballet, directed by José Carlos Martínez el, one of the most praised works of the genre, written by Marius Petipa and based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes.
It is a free adaptation of Don Quixote of la Mancha and in particular, of the episode narrated in Chapter 19 of the second part called Camacho's wedding, which tells of the love story between Basilio, the barber and the young Quiteria. This production maintains the original choreographic structure but at the same time, adds a more poetic value to the character of Don Quixote and his search for the perfect love in the imaginary Dulcinea del Toboso. It also tries to get a little closer to the traditional Spanish culture and dance without suppressing any of the energy and colour that exude from the three acts.
