Spain is hosting the Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018, bringing together the best national sides and the greatest players in the world, looking to seize the crown from the US, the reigning World Champions.
This is the first time this event will be held under its new name, putting it on a par with the men’s tournament, which was hosted by Spain in 2014, with the final being played between Serbia and the US at Madrid’s Barclaycard Center.
The last edition of the women’s tournament was held in Turkey, with victory claimed by the great world power in this sport, holder of nine world and seven Olympic titles: the USA. The American team, led by the brilliant Maya Moore, beat the Spanish side in the final.
