To mark the 5th centenary of the death of Hieronymus van Acken Bosch, National Heritage is joining the events organised around this great Dutch artist, showing the public works conserved at the El Escorial Royal Monastery, belonging to the Royal Collections.
The paintings that are on display include Christ Crowned with Thorns; the panel, Christ on the Route to Calvary; and the triptych, The Hay Wain, after having been recently restored, which will reveal the importance of this work and its high quality. These works are proof of King Felipe the Second’s love for this Flemish artist and they are mentioned in the Transfer Books as of 1593
In addition to the panels, some extraordinary tapestries woven in Brussels between 1550 and 1570, made of gold and silk threads, which are modelled on some of the painter’s works will also be on display. The exhibition will be rounded off with unique pieces from the Royal Collections.
