The American-born Swedish soprano Barbara Hendricks will sing gospel and blues as part of the 22nd Es Navidad (It’s Christmas) Gospel Festival.
Barbara Hendricks sings songs about black slaves’ struggle for freedom, the civil rights movement inspired by Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, and the end of segregation. With songs such as Down in Mississippi, Dark Was the Night, Glory Hallelujah, Strange Fruit or Amazing Grace, she tells stories of activism, liberation and joy.
Barbara Hendricks (Arkansas, USA, 1948) is enormously admired as a concert singer. She’s released a dozen records and has sung on the main opera stages in the world.
After supporting the cause of refugees for years, in 1998 she founded the Barbara Hendricks Foundation for Peace and Reconciliation, aimed at preventing conflict and facilitating reconciliation and peace.
