The Stabile del Veneto Theatre Company hosts the Commedia dell’arte masterpiece by Carlo Goldoni, Arlecchino, il servitore di due padroni, with all of its carnival spirit and a touch of gloom.
Using a colourful wardrobe, sleek masks and the inclusion of music, song and acrobatics on stage, the performance reflects 16th century Venetian society, bringing together diverse theatre disciplines and incorporating some improvisation techniques.
The story begins when Clarice, daughter of Pantalone, and Silvio, son of Dottore Lombardi, get engages, which is possible following the death of Federico Rasponi, to whom Clarice was previously engaged.
However, Arlecchino unexpectedly announces the arrival of his master, Federico, to the desperation of the happy couple who see their engagement broken. However, Brighella realises that Federico is really his sister, Beatriz. In turn, Florindo, Beatriz’s lover and Federico’s murderer, comes to Venice fleeing from the law. In search of a servant, he comes across Arlecchino, who offers himself as his servant.
The performance is in Italian with Spanish subtitles.
