In 1851, the Duke of Granada de Ega entrusted the construction of his new palace to the architect Matías Laviña Blasco, who built it in classical style following Italian architectural influences like window moldings and “Roman concrete” for the frescoes on the façade. It is considered one of the most important buildings of the Neo-Renaissance architecture in Madrid.
Currently there is very little left of the original project, apart from the part of the design of its two façades. Today it houses the 5-star hotel Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques.
