The Ibero-American Institute of Finland was opened in 1996, in cooperation with the Complutense University of Madrid, where it is located. Its main purpose is to promote Finnish culture in the Ibero-American world and to create cultural links between Finland and Spanish-speaking countries.
Its main headquarters in the central district of Chamberí have a library and exhibition room. It organises events each year, including art exhibitions, conferences and concerts.
It organises some of these events in collaboration with various public and private bodies: concerts, dance performances, theatre, film projections, etc.
