Madrid has a broad railway structure that allows access to the capital city from all points in Spain, and offers the possibility of comfortably travelling through the country. The two principal stations, Atocha and Chamartín, receive medium- and long-distance trains, high-velocity trains and local trains. In addition, international trains travel to and from France and Portugal through Chamartín.
The medium-distance lines allow travellers to access the capital city from any point in Spain. Chamartín Station (Agustín de Foxa, no address number) and Atocha Station (Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, no address number) have daily departures and arrivals to and from the most important cities.
Trains to the north of Spain travelling throughout the night depart from Chamartín. The Trenhotel is a high-end overnight service where the traveller has his or her own room, including a bed. People can travel through the Trenhotel to Galicia and international destinations. Two long-distance lines connect Madrid with Lisbon and Paris. In both cases, there is Trenhotel service with departure from Chamartín Station.
