The people of Vallecas hold the Rayo Vallecano Club as a real icon of their identity and the idiosyncrasy of this area of this neighbourhood in the south of Madrid. Their stadium is the temple where the locals have fought and suffered the ups and downs of their team in the First Division of the Professional Football League.
Rayo Vallecano started out in 1924 and the current stadium was built over the old one in 1973 and, after its latest renovations to adapt it to UEFA directives, it has a capacity for 14,700 spectators.
Besides being the stage for football team’s epic story, this stadium has also been the venue for large concerts, such as Bob Dylan in1980, Metallica in 1992, and Queen in 1986. Amongst the Spanish line-ups that have filled the stadium with their concerts are Barricada, Miguel Ríos and Luz Casal.
