The RACE (Real Automóvil Club de España) sports club is situated on the outskirts of Madrid, on the Burgos road. It was designed by Javier Arana and opened in 1967. It lies in the foothills of Sierra Norte, which boasts beautiful surroundings and a stunning view of Somosierra.
The club offers owner-members other types of sports and leisure activities but golf is by far the most popular form of exercise here. It boasts an 18-hole course, which stages social tournaments at the weekends and another 9-hole course, where golfers practice among watercourses, bunkers and a lake, which make the game a little more challenging. Owner-members also have access to the 24 tennis courts (eight of them floodlit), four swimming pools (one indoor), 12 courts for padel (sport similar to platform tennis), one of the best riding rings in Europe, a football pitch, a basketball court and a hockey field.
