Loewe is a European company created by a German business man aided by French investors in Spain. Enrique Loewe Roessberg established a leather goods workshop at Lobo St. (now Echegaray St). Subsequently, he opened a shop to sell those products at Principe St.
In 1905 he became a Royal House supplier. He moved several times to different premises situated all in the same Gran Via area. and finally stayed for decades at Barquillo St. He has always worked on leather accessories, travelling personal effects and luxury bookbindings. Thus, he was responsible for carrying this luxury market to the Salamanca neighbourhood in the 50’s.
This store also offers visitors a chance to see a selection of pieces from its historical collections. A small museum of 20th-century luxury shows visitors the fashion and glamour icons that passed through this store, among them: Ava Gardner, Deborah Kerr, Charlton Heston, Cary Grant, James Stewart, Margot Fonteyn and Maria Callas. Each of them left their autograph in the book kept at the shop.
