Casa Hernanz has been selling Castañer espadrilles for over a century and a half. This fashion appeared in the 60s thanks to Yves Saint Laurent, who took them to fashion shows all over the world, leading to them being worn by such well-known personalities as Jacqueline Kennedy or Marilyn Monroe.
As a result, Casa Hernanz fills its shop with hundreds of customers every day, selling around 100,000 pairs of espadrilles a year. It is the only shop one in Madrid selling hand-stitched espadrilles in 32 colours and around 30 sizes, for little over four euros a pair. The shop is becoming famous abroad too, to the extent that it has been mentioned in the New York Times.
