It is said that every time that Andy Warhol arrived in Madrid, he sat at the bar and stayed there for hours watching how glasses of wine and shrimps were served nonstop. La Casa del Abuelo is a traditional tavern like the old ones which has taught Madrilenians, Spanish and foreigners the tapas culture through the best shrimps and prawns and the best sweet wine in Madrid.
The menu in La Casa del Abuelo is very simple: shrimps, prawns and red shrimps prepared in different ways: grilled shrimps, garlic shrimps, grilled prawns, battered shrimps, prawns in brochettes, shrimp croquettes... and small glasses of wine and beer. A short but successful menu. This is a place with a tradition of a whole century (it was created in 1906) which has survived the last tendencies like fast food and nouvelle cuisine. La Casa del Abuelo has two more establishments in Madrid, one in calle Victoria and the other one in Núñez del Arce.
