After the Spanish Civil War, the Portal family opened this restaurant in the middle of the Lavapiés neighbourhood. Years later and thanks to the new owner, Diego Fernández, the establishment moved to a new location: the Retiro district. The restaurant kept its name and its traditional Asturian cuisine. Fabada (bean stew) and pote asturiano (cabbage, bean and pork stew), besugo a la espalda (grilled red bream with garlic) and sweet rice pudding are some of the specialties on the menu at Casa Portal. It seats 150 guests, has two halls and a bar. Natural cider also features among the star products.
Open: Tue 1:30pm-4:30pm; Wed-Sat 1:30pm-4:30pm / 8;30pm-11:30pm / Sun 1:30pm-4:30pm
