MADRID International JAZZ FESTIVAL 2009

Between November 4 and 28, Madrid once again becomes the capital of music thanks to a new edition of its International Jazz Festival.

This is already the 26th edition of the Madrid International Jazz Festival, which has become an unmissable appointment for jazz-lovers. It's the most awaited musical event, and this time it'll be opened by one of the most important tenor saxophonists in the world, Joe Lovano, who's going to perform on November 4 in the Teatro Fernán Gómez (Plaza de Colón, 4).

Joe Lovano, Jazz Festival 2009This theatre will be the main venue of the festival. Its scene will welcome great names such as Richard Bona (Nov 7), Cassandra Wilson (Nov 18), who'll present her exquisite Thunderbird, and Toni Zenet (Nov 21), a captivating Andalusian crooner who brings to Madrid the themes of his first solo work Los Mares de China, which has the makings of a classic. Fusion is his thing: quite a journey which will allow the audience to dive into the Andalusian copla, the Argentinean tango, Cuban rhythms and the jazz of New York.

In the Fundación Carlos de Amberes (Claudio Coello, 99) we'll see Roy Hargrove (Nov 6), and in the Teatro Circo Price (Ronda de Atocha, 35) we'll have the chance to watch Kike Perdomo & Eric Marienthal (Nov 12) and the always surprising Madeleine Peyroux (Nov 13), who'll perform tracks from Bare Bones, her latest work, in which, in her own words, she tries to explore the essence of the things in which she believes and which really matter to her. Two more women, Patricia Kraus and Edith Salazar, will be the stars of the Centro Cultural Nicolás Salmerón (Mantuano, 51) on the 27th and 28th, respectively.

Madeleine Peyroux, Jazz Festival 2009A total of 15 clubs spread all over the city will also take part in this edition, which is completed with the programmes of the XXVIII Festival de Jazz de San Juan Evangelista and the XIV Festival de Jazz de Ciudad Lineal. There will also be musicians performing on the streets, workshops, presentations of up-and-coming artists and a lot of cinema, with different venues showing films in which the soundtracks stand out on their own, such as The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Instituto Francés de Madrid, Nov 3) and Breathless (Centro Cultural Nicolás Salmerón, Nov 10).
