This hundred-year-old flamenco bar is one of the most traditional spots for enjoying Madrid nightlife. Founded in 1911 by two bullfighters, it is located on Plaza de Santa Ana, next to the old Victoria Hotel which was famous for providing accommodation to numerous bullfighters.
Easily recognizable thanks to its tiled façade, its stage has been graced by the the biggest stars in flamenco and it has been visited by such celebrities as Ernest Hemingway and Ava Gardner. The rooms, decorated with arches and coffered ceilings, host two daily shows almost all year round.
During the show, spectators can have a drink or a bite to eat. The menu includes Iberian cold cuts, salads, grilled meats, fried fish and paella.
Incidentally, as Almodóvar fans may know, the director filmed the first scene of his picture "High Heels", starring Victoria Abril and Miguel Bosé, in this very bar.
