Madrid has an extensive railway network that enables access to the capital from all parts of Spain, offering the possibility to move around with ease and comfort within the national territory. Atocha and Chamartín are the two main railway stations as they receive short-haul, long-distance, high-speed and suburban trains. Furthermore, Chamartín also receives international arrivals from France and Portugal.
Short-haul trains enable travellers to reach the capital from all corners of Spain. Chamartín (Agustín de Foxa, s/n) and Atocha (Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, s/n) stations are the daily arrival and departure points for trains serving the country’s most important cities:
High-Speed Short-haul (Avant)
Avant Madrid-Ciudad Real-Puertollano: leaves from Atocha. Makes the journey to Ciudad Real in 53 minutes and to Puertollano in 1 hour and 13 minutes.
Avant Madrid-Toledo: leaves from Atocha. Makes the journey in 30 minutes.
AVE Shuttle Madrid-Segovia-Valladolid: leaves from Chamartín. Makes the journey in 28 minutes to Segovia and 1 hour and 5 minutes to Valladolid.

SHORT-HAUL TRAINS CENTRE AND NORTH
Line R-1. Madrid-Ávila: leaves from Atocha, goes through Chamartín and makes the journey in 2 hours. Express train from Chamartín: 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Line R-2. Madrid-Segovia: leaves from Atocha and goes through Chamartín. Journey time: 1 hour 40 minutes. The Talgo line leaves from Chamartín and the journey lasts 31 minutes.
Line R-3. Madrid-Soria: leaves from Atocha. Journey time: 3 hours.
Line R-4. Madrid-Arcos de Jalón-Zaragoza: leaves from Chamartín. 2 hours 10 minutes to Arcos de Jalón and 3 hours 49 minutes to Zaragoza.
Line R-20. Madrid-Salamanca: leaves from Chamartín and makes the journey in 2 hours 45 minutes.
Line R-21. Madrid-Valladolid-León: leaves from Chamartín and makes the journey in 2 hours 45 minutes to Valladolid and in 4 hours 40 minutes to León.
Line R-27. Madrid-Valladolid-Vitoria: leaves from Chamartín, makes the journey in 2 hours 45 minutes to Valladolid and in 5 hours 30 minutes to Vitoria.
SHORT-HAUL TRAINS EASTERN REGIONS
Line R-6. Madrid-Cuenca-Valencia: leaves from Atocha station and makes the journey in 6 hours 25 minutes.
Line R-7. Madrid-Alcázar-Albacete: leaves from Chamartín and passes through Atocha. Makes the journey to Albacete in 2 hours 50 minutes.
SHORT-HAUL TRAINS EXTREMADURA-CASTILLA LA MANCHA
Line R-8. Madrid-Ciudad Real-Jaén: leaves from Chamartín and passes through Atocha. Journey time: 4 hours to Jaén.
Line R-9. Madrid-C. Real-C. de Buey-Badajoz: leaves from Atocha and makes the journey in 7 hours 47 minutes.
Line R-10. Madrid-Cáceres-Badajoz: leaves from Atocha and makes the journey in 5 hours 47 minutes. The Talgo leaves Chamartín, passes through Atocha and makes the journey in 5 hours 28 minutes.
RENFE (Spanish national railway company) provides services to the following long distance destinations:
Two long-distance lines connect Madrid with Lisbon and Paris, both of them being Trenhotel services, departing from Chamartín station.
Madrid-Lisbon (Santa Apolonia): daily Trenhotel Lusitania train, takes 9 hours 16 minutes.
Madrid-Paris (Austerlitz): the Trenhotel Francisco de Goya connects the Spanish capital with the French one in 13 hours 31 minutes. Travels via Orléans, Blois and Poitiers (www.elipsos.com/).
