By its very nature, Madrid is an open-minded city and has always welcomed all those wanting to live life their own way. The Chueca neighbourhood sets an example for all the world to see, of how an area can be restored and turned into a unique area of personal freedom.
A cultural melting pot, Madrid is an open and welcoming city. Chueca neighbourhood is the heart of the gay scene and a great example of integration, in particular at the end of June and beginning of July, when the area hosts the Gay Pride Parade, the biggest street party in Europe.

Madrid boasts one of the world's most legendary Gay Pride celebrations, and in 2009 and 2010 the city was voted Best Annual Gay Destination by fans of MTV's Logo channel. Revolving around the Chueca area, the event reaches its climax with an impressive parade which is always held on the first Saturday after 28 June.
