The idea behind the Room Mate hotels was to create a new concept based on a more casual personalized attention. Entrepreneur Enrique Sarasola and three partners decided to refurbish centrically located spaces with an original and fun design always guaranteeing affordable prices.
The first one of them was Room Mate Mario, located near Teatro Real; Alicia followed in 2006, right in Plaza de Santa Ana, in the heart of the Literary Quarter. The industrial building designed in the early 20th century by architect Modesto López Otero is now a modern construction decorated by famous interior designer Pascua Ortega. It features bright rooms with incomparable views onto the terraces in the square. All of them are equipped with LCD flat screens, Wi-Fi Internet connections, satellite TV, DVD and even a mini-swimming-pool in the Duplex room.
This building, before being refurbished and turned into a hotel, was the setting for some of the scenes in the Oscar-winning film by Pedro Almodóvar Talk to Her. The hotel provides a wide range of services, and what many were missing in other hotels: an outstanding breakfast buffet until noon.
